2008 Award Recipients Announced
Mercy Foundation North today announced the 2008 recipient of its Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor given by the Foundation, as well as the 2008 recipients of the Mercy Foundation North McAuley Society Awards, with thirty-eight (38) donors receiving the prestigious honor recently at the Foundation’s 10th annual Donor Recognition Dinner.
Art Dowell received the Distinguished Service Award, an honor bestowed for exceptional service, outstanding commitment and contributions. “Art exceeds all of the award criteria. He has been a consistent and enthusiastic supporter of Mercy Foundation North and the organizations the Foundation serves. He is always ready to help and is a devoted supporter of the Sisters of Mercy,” said Jeanine Bourgeois-Hedman, President. The award was presented to Art at the St. Elizabeth Community Hospital Advisory Council meeting on Thursday, October 16th by Jessie Shields, 2006 recipient of the award, Sr. Pat Manoli, and Jon Halfhide, Catholic Healthcare West North State President, who had accepted the award on Art’s behalf the evening of the McAuley Society Dinner. “Art is passionate about any project he takes on,” Jessie Shields said, “and is the first to step forward as a donor.” Regarding his decision to leave the legacy of a charitable gift annuity with Mercy Foundation North, Art wrote of the personal benefits he has experienced as a supporter of the works of the Sisters of Mercy. “It is very healing and encouraging to be with the good and loving people who characterize the Sisters (of Mercy) and the Foundation, and this is a great satisfaction to me,” he wrote. Art came to Red Bluff in 1990 looking for a chance to serve the community. In addition to serving on the Mercy Foundation North Board of Trustees and the St. Elizabeth Community Hospital Advisory Council, Art is a member of the Mercy Foundation North Tehama County Development Council, Turtle Bay Board of Trustees, Friends of the Tehama County Library, Sons in Retirement and is active in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Red Bluff.
Mercy Foundation North also recognized its most generous supporters at the recent Donor Recognition Dinner by inducting them into the McAuley Society. Membership in the McAuley Society is awarded to donors whose cumulative giving to Mercy Foundation North reaches $10,000 or more. The award is named for Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy.
