3D Mammography Expands Cancer Treatment Options in Red Bluff
An extra dimension has been added to breast cancer treatment offered at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff, thanks to a $300,000 capital campaign.
Three-dimensional mammography became available in April, providing Tehama County patients with a sophisticated detection option that previously required travel out of the county. “This unit allows for more accurate detection, quicker diagnosis of abnormalities, and improved image quality,” said Rick Dunbar, director of St. Elizabeth’s imaging center.
“3D mammography has become the gold standard of breast imaging, and we are thrilled to now be able to offer this outstanding technology to our patients and community,” Dunbar added.
Campaign supporters included Haleakala Walnuts of Red Bluff, the North State Cancer League, the Safeway Foundation, and the Louie Foundation.
Red Bluff’s Oncology and Infusion Center Means More Care, Less Travel
In her battle with a rare form of breast cancer, retired Dignity Health nurse Nancy Shilts really came to appreciate time – which is why she said it was a blessing to receive infusions and see her oncologist in her home town of Red Bluff.
Dr. Jed Freeman returned to the north state in the fall of 2019 to care for patients in St. Elizabeth Community Hospital’s new Oncology and Infusion Center. The center spares Tehama County patients from having to travel to Redding or Chico.
“It has been indescribably valuable to me to receive cancer treatment in my home town,” Nancy said. “Being moments away from the clinic and the caring, highly qualified staff has given me peace of mind while saving countless hours of driving time. The time saved allowed me to create more memories with my family and friends.”
Nancy lost her battle to cancer on August 13, 2020.
That extra time with loved ones? Precious.  5
