of Love and Support
Connected Living’s regional food bank quickly felt the brunt of the pandemic. A letter to supporters prompt- ed $20,000 in donations, with many donors saying they dipped into their federal Economic Impact Payment checks.
A generous $40,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the North State also helped Connected Living fill the shelves of community food banks and pantries at a dozen locations in Redding, Shasta Lake, Anderson, and Shingletown.
Businesses made sure hospital staff in Mt. Shasta, Redding, and Red Bluff were kept well fed too. Between local companies and big hitters like the Gary Sinise Foundation, some 20,000 meals were delivered and devoured.
Chefs at Cattlemens Steakhouse prepared 50 meals that were delivered to the respiratory therapy team at Mercy Redding. For Michelle Bergeron, Cattlemens’ Redding-based marketing and event manager, the contribution came with a helping of gratitude. Her late husband, Andy, spent two months in Mercy Redding’s critical care unit and received
around-the-clock care from respiratory techs. “To be able to donate meals to them was awesome. It’s so nice to give back to communities who have been taking care of us.”
The generous and heartfelt contributions have not gone unnoticed, said Slaughter. “Employees are gracious. They feel energized and blessed when they experience these great acts of kindness. It’s story after story of kindness and generosity to help our health care workers keep our community, our patients, and our providers safe.” 

“My wife Diane and I give to Mercy Foundation North because we desire to fulfill the practical and personal needs of people in our community. Also, we recognize the good, efficient, and effective work of the leaders and staff who deliver on the promises of its mission."
