Mercy Foundation North Receives $100,000 Grant for Digital Mammography!
The Hearst Foundations awarded Mercy Foundation North a $100,000 grant that will support Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta’s recent digital mammography upgrade. “It is our pleasure that the Board of Directors of The Hearst Foundation, Inc., has awarded this grant toward the purchase of digital mammography equipment at Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta and on behalf of our Board of Directors, I extend best wishes for Mercy’s continued success,” said Paul “Dino” Dinovitz, Executive Director.
The hospital was able to purchase the new equipment in November with half the funds raised and a commitment from Mercy Foundation North to raise the additional funds needed by the end of 2011. Since purchasing the digital mammography equipment in November, the hospital has performed more than 400 mammograms. The equipment was a major purchase for the hospital and was made possible with the support of The Hearst Foundations and many other contributors.
“We are deeply touched by the generosity of our friends at The Hearst Foundations. The goal of implementing digital mammography is a service we strongly believe in and will assist us in continuing to provide the highest level of care available to our patients. This significant grant now makes that goal a reality. We are very appreciative of The Hearst Foundations. They have significantly impacted our ability to fulfill our mission of caring for our community,” stated hospital President, Kenneth Platou.
Digital mammography is the most advanced technology for detection of breast cancer and early detection is critical to improving overall survival rates. With the purchase of digital mammography equipment, Mercy Medical Center Mt. Shasta is equipped with the most up-to-date technology that produces high quality images that can be transmitted via computer to radiologists and physicians for diagnosis.
“To say that we are delighted about these funds is an understatement,” said Alisa Johnson, Development Officer at Mercy Foundation North. “It is the goal of Mercy Foundation North to raise funds that will improve the hospital’s ability to serve the medical needs of our community and we are extremely thankful for the support of The Hearst Foundations and our many supporters who contributed to the campaign.” The total project cost is approximately $350,000. To date, just under $317,000 has been raised.
